PHNOM PENH (AFP) — Hollywood star Jackie Chan plans to make a film in Cambodia to raise awareness about landmines and HIV, he said after a three-day visit to the kingdom as a UN goodwill ambassador.

The popular kung fu hero who was here on his second tour told a press briefing that the best way for him to spread a global message about Cambodian landmine victims and the plight of HIV sufferers was via the silver screen.

After his first trip he said he told people of suffering here but "do they listen to me or really know what happens? They've never come to Cambodia like me.... Every day I'm thinking how many people get hurt, how many people die."

The "only good way" for him to get his message out was to make a movie, he said, so he collaborated with friends to come up with a script.

"I'm very satisfied right now ... 50% REMAINING

Popular Hong Kong action-film star Jackie Chan arrived in Cambodia on Monday for a three-day visit to promote the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the U.N. AIDS program.

Upon arrival by small special plane, Chan said he looked forward to his time in Cambodia. ''I'm so happy to be here,'' he told reporters.

It is the first time he has visited Cambodia.

During his mission, the film star will be ''focusing on projects relating to HIV/AIDS, rehabilitation of land-mine victims, mine education and awareness and will be visiting projects both in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, the site of Angkor Wat.
